After some time on mainland Bali, our next stop was the beautiful Gili islands!
When planning a multi-stop trip – whether it’s one country or one continent – can be daunting, with many places to see. Do you stay on the well travelled route – or do you want to go off the beaten track? Are you travelling on a shoestring or do you want to treat yourself? Are you going to plan it all before you go or give yourself some flexibility and leave it open? Are you going to fit it all in to a few weeks or stretch it out over a few months?
The Gilis, a group of 3 small islands just off Bali, are a tiny piece of paradise. Whether you’re heading there for a few days relaxation after partying in Kuta or Seminyak on mainland Bali, or just after a peaceful getaway, you are guaranteed to forget about whatever it is you came to forget, as the hustle and bustle of real life escapes you.
Uluwatu The main places to stay in Bali are Kuta or Seminyak – before I went, everyone would ask me if I was staying in Kuta or Seminyak…but I actually didn’t stay in either of those! As I’d heard that they are fast becoming more and more touristy and full of drunk rowdy foreigners (mainly Australians!!), we decided to stay a bit further out in Uluwatu in the south of the island.
Whatever anyone tells you before you go, there are just some things you will only ever learn (and might not want to experience again!) from travelling around Asia yourself…
